I recently went for a meal with a friend to Frankie & Benny’s, in Meadowhall. Meadowhall has so many choices of where to eat, but we eventually decided on Frankie & Benny’s. I didn’t know what to expect, although I had looked on their website to see if there was a varied choice of what I’m able to eat.
When I eat out, I usually plan ahead. I went straight to their allergen menu online to see what options I had. I’m intolerant to dairy so I was quite worried I wouldn’t be able to find something to eat.
When we entered the restaurant, I ensured that I told the staff about my dairy intolerance straight away. They were very helpful and told me that I’d be able to have a look at their allergen menu. I was called up to their computer where the waitress went through my options with me. I did actually feel quite rushed whilst trying to choose from the computer, plus people were looking over and it drew unwanted attention to the situation.
I decided to have chicken to start. The front of house staff had told me to avoid any dips, so I did. The chicken was delicious and not too filling. I don’t really like it when starters fill me up.
I was slightly indecisive on this particular day, but for main I opted for pulled pork burger and chips. I decided not to eat the bread bun in the end, I was full from everything else. However, the rest of my food was gorgeous.
I’m going to be honest, I found the allergen menu to be quite complex. I struggled to know what I should be looking at and where. Although, it’s brilliant that restaurant chains work hard on their allergen menus. Perhaps the Frankie & Benny’s allergen menu is slightly too technical for me.
I’m so impressed with how helpful the staff were. I liked that they gave me advice on avoiding all dips.
I would happily return to Frankie & Benny’s again. Hopefully I will be slightly more adventurous with my food next time!
